The government is not the only one who is out of touch with the American people. Our entertainment industry is completely disinterested in America and Americans as well. They are literally living in a different universe from what they call "ordinary people." This is not really new news, but I thought I would bring up the topic after seeing Drudge's interesting photo of the larger-than-life Oscar statue.
Does anyone notice how closely the figure resembles a corpse? A corpse of fake gold that is dead. Surreal.
Love the guy with the skull on the back of his jacket. Priceless. Hollywood as it is to today needs to be buried.
Elitism in any culture is the sign of a culture on the decline and not necessarily for the reasons we think. I have written a number of articles on elitism in our government and elitism in the technology industry. I have stayed away from the entertainment industry because I don't have much interest. I thought I'd bring it up today only because it illustrates quite well the fantasy land that our country has immersed themselves in, whether that world be one of political idealism, economic fantasias, online personas and intellectual masturbation. Hollywood these days is a place the elites look towards for creating their fantasy worlds on the big screen. Hollywood does not create many pictures that reflect what reality-driven, hard working Americans consider to be stories worthy of our lives and of our consideration or thought. What it does create is propaganda driven by its own interests. And Hollywood does not even entertain itself. They consider themselves to be above entertainment because entertainment is supposed to serve the audience, not preach to it. But Hollywood thinks it has knowledge or something to teach: It inspires itself with its perception of its own importance. In other words, it suffers social narcissism. As a result it consistently ejects, out from within its bowels, the likes of Sean Penn, George Clooney and Martin Sheen
And it is so far gone that not even the Hollywood elites feel like they should bother with the Oscars. They have risen so high that even they will need some kind of bribery in order to show up:
I can report that this year's producers are privately complaining that the biggest movie stars in the world like Jack Nicholson, Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, and Kate Winslet gave them reasons galore -- some serious, some trivial -- for why they didn't want to present awards, once considered a huge honor. (For instance, Kidman said she appear onstage without the "right" hairdresser. George Clooney wouldn't reschedule his current visit to Darfur refugee camps in Africa. And Winslet, the Best Actress shoo-in, claimed she was too "nervous" to take it on.) One of the few bigtime actresses who didn't balk was Reese Witherspoon. These behind-the-scenes embarrassments are one reason why the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences took the unprecedented step this year of failing to make public the list of Oscar presenters. There's even talk now of bringing back those official $100,000+ Oscar baskets of expensive freebies that used to be given to the show's presenters and performers (before Uncle Sam decided to tax the giveaways) as a way to bribe Hollywood into lending its star power. - Nikki Finke
Read the rest of the article. It is a good glimpse at how our media in general works. It will do anything to manipulate a situation in order to make it APPEAR to be more important than it is. This is no different from political propaganda or the real estate boom. People are not buying into what they think they are buying into. They are buying into a sham and it will cost them either their money, their freedom or their minds.
Now look at the body politic as the body of an individual. What do we call it when an individual has no grasp of reality and instead has his own imagination of reality. Do you think that that individual's behavior is going to be workable? Do you think that that individual is going to be able to survive? He will only be able to survive in a reality that is structured and built upon his own imagination. He will be able to survive if he persuades OTHERS to believe in the same screwed up, demented reality that he wants to believe in. The imagination of Obama, for the sake of example, is a demented twisted reality that will become unhinged the more mother nature or mother reality expresses her full wrath.
So this kind of destructive narcissism is what allows for a complete and utter disconnect from reality. This cutting off from reality is no different from the unreal and illegitimate "economic system" we have to day, which seeks and implements solutions to problems that its VERY EXISTENCE caused.
THAT is the true meaning of the Oedipal conflict. It has nothing to do with sex or sexual desire: another piece of fakery in the area of Greek Literature, which has been so warped and distorted in the "higher" educational system that it is barely recognizable. Trust me on that. If our kids were taught how to read the classics as they were intended, boy would they be a wise group. The government and Hollywood and the PR firms would have a tough time selling them the garbage they sell them today. That is why the LAST thing that higher education wants is to teach our kids the real joy of the mind and freedom of mind. Otherwise, they wouldn't get their grants and subsidies.
Here is a translation of Tiresias the prophet talking to Oedipus about his own ignorance concerning his history and his country. Pay attention to the consequences that Tiresias makes plain. He is talking about the consequences of not living in reality and instead living in the stories and lies of others who peddle in lies and misdirection:
You may be king, but I have the right
to answer you—and I control that right,
for I am not your slave. I serve Apollo,
and thus will never stand with Creon,
signed up as his man. So I say this to you,
since you have chosen to insult my blindness—
you have your eyesight, and you do not see
how miserable you are, or where you live,
or who it is who shares your household.
Do you know the family you come from?
Without your knowledge you’ve become
the enemy of your own kindred,
those in the world below and those up here,
and the dreadful feet of that two-edged curse
from father and mother both will drive you
from this land in exile. Those eyes of yours,
which now can see so clearly, will be dark.
What harbour will not echo with your cries?
Where on Cithaeron* will they not soon be heard,
once you have learned the truth about the wedding
by which you sailed into this royal house—
a lovely voyage, but the harbour’s doomed?
You’ve no idea of the quantity
of other troubles which will render you
and your own children equals. So go on—
keep insulting Creon and my prophecies,
for among all living mortals no one
will be destroyed more wretchedly than you. (Sophocles, Oedipus Tyrannus)
I think the good news is that if America is destroyed. It will not be the America we love that is destroyed. It will be the sham America that has been burying the real one long ago. The true America is still alive and well, because she is born from and rooted from our hearts and minds, those hearts and minds that consider freedom more precious than gold.
